How to choose a loose lab-grown diamond

Colour. D, E and F are colourless, the whitest grades; G to J are near-colourless and look white once set, offering excellent value. Read more in our guides to D colour and F colour lab diamonds. For something different, explore our pink, blue, yellow, champagne and green lab-grown diamonds.

Clarity. Most of our diamonds are VS1 or VS2, which are eye-clean, with a selection of VVS1 and VVS2 stones for those who want near-flawless clarity. See our F VS2 guide and VVS1 guide.

Cut and shape. Round brilliants offer the most sparkle; oval, pear and marquise shapes look larger for their carat weight; emerald cuts have an elegant step-cut look; cushion, radiant and princess cuts combine brilliance with a squarer outline.

Certification. The vast majority of our loose diamonds come with an independent IGI or GIA grading report confirming carat, colour, clarity and measurements; look for IGI or GIA in the product title. Learn more in lab-grown diamond certifications explained.

Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds. They are grown in a laboratory rather than mined, which makes them more affordable and more sustainable.
